解放前，徐凤生和爸爸爷爷徐忠厚在北平以开杂货店为生。凤生十六岁的时候，爸女俩被封建道会“一贯道”的头子王继善骗入了“一贯道”，凤生的姑妈徐淑云也被骗入道中，并被王继善强行占有。徐淑云的儿子张健华离家投奔了革命，受到蒙骗的徐忠厚财产被掠走后，他们逐渐认识到了“一贯道”的骗局。坛主李仙钧恐其二人露了自己的秘密，便勾结蒋介石特务将徐忠厚和徐淑云杀害。解放后，张健华找到了表姐凤生。李仙钧等人怕事情败露，又要杀凤生灭口。这次他们没有得逞，被及时赶到的公安人员绳之以法。徐凤生从此洗新革面，摆脱了往日的阴影，过上了幸福的生活。。The film is a dramatic re-enactment of real-life events that took place in 1968 in the small village of San Miguel Canoa in Puebla, México.
