故事以被大地震摧毁的废墟城市"首尔"为背景，灾难席卷了整个世界，首尔一夜之间化为废墟，一切都倒塌了，唯有“皇宫公寓”完好无损。外部幸存者们开始纷纷涌入唯一一座未倒塌的公寓，公寓内部的住户们因此感受到威胁，他们为了利己生存而成为一体，以投票选出的临时居民代表金煐卓（李秉宪饰）为中心，制定了一套皇宫公寓的新规则，同时彻底阻止外来者进入公寓。正因如此，与地狱般的外界不同，乌托邦式的皇宫公寓对居住者来说极为安全和稳定。然而，在无尽的生存危机中，这看似宁静的乌托邦世界，正在由内而外的瓦解中，人性的冲突在他们之间持续展开，不论是谁，都必须遵守幸存者的生存规则，否则离开。。Jan Sienkiewicz, a writer and lecturer who was expelled from university, takes a job at a Warsaw high school.
